Vacancy: Consular & Passports Officer

The Australian Embassy in Tehran seeks applications for an experienced Consular & Passports Officer at the LE7.1 level. Ideally, the successful applicant will have client service experience gained in a diplomatic mission, international organization or multinational enterprise.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to provide high level client services to a wide range of stakeholders, including the professional and empathetic management of difficult and distressed clients who may be experiencing difficulties of a sensitive nature. Strong communication and negotiation skills, including an ability to effectively liaise with Iranian government authorities.

2. Fluent written and spoken English and Farsi. High level interpretation and translation skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality written correspondence.

3. Ability to interpret and implement Australian government legislation and policies, including an understanding (or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire an understanding) of key principles of the Australian Passports Act 2005, the Consular Fees Act 1955, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Freedom of Information Act 1982. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire a working knowledge of Embassy specific computer applications used for consular case management and passports workflow.

4. Demonstrated sound judgement, problem solving skills, and an ability to work with limited supervision. Strong organisation and time management skills, including an ability to prioritise workloads, and work effectively as part of a team.
